Large White Stoneware Pottery Vase with Curved Neck and Pink and Grey Decoration

This handmade stoneware ceramic vase is brushed with white slip and decorated with pink and dark grey brush marks. It elegantly opens outwards which makes it perfect for arranging flowers in a modern, relaxed fashion and will create a centre point for any room. It would be a perfect gift for anyone interested in home decoration, interior design or floral design, or for use in your own home.

The modern shape of the pottery vase is complimented by the arching nature of the brush marks which are inspired by the flowers and plants that I see around me in the Kent countryside.

I throw each item of pottery on the wheel. This vase has been wired off and you can see the marks of the twisted wire on the base. When it is a little drier I have rolled the edges of the base to make it more rounded and slightly domed the centre of the base so that it sits really well on a surface. Then it has been decorated using slips. You can see the brush marks of the white slip with the darker slightly speckled clay coming through underneath, which is intentional, and then the final few coloured marks are made with a special paint brush. Finally, the vase is fired with a transparent, waterproof glaze to stoneware temperatures.

• The vase has my makers mark stamped on the base. It's my initials made into a butterfly.
• I package all of my items in two cardboard boxes with compostable chips in between for transit. Occasionally I use other packaging in order to reuse it and avoid sending it to landfill.
